Teaching Philosophy

Teaching painting, drawing, and foundational visual arts is most effective when approached as a mutual, interactive process. In my classroom, I aim to create spaces for dialogue, curiosity, and shared exploration, where both students’ ideas and core artistic principles come together to guide learning and creative growth.

A dynamic learning environment encourages students to take creative risks, follow their intuition, and engage deeply with both conceptual and technical aspects of art-making. Freedom, personal interests, and active participation help foster originality and empower students to develop their artistic voice while still exploring the foundational principles of visual arts.

Course frameworks provide structure and guidance, but flexibility allows students with particular interests or strengths to explore assignments in ways that resonate with their creative pursuits. This balance ensures that learning remains rigorous and equitable, while also supporting individual experimentation and self-directed discovery.

Respect, trust, and collaboration form the foundation of the learning environment. By integrating interactive activities, project-based exploration, and thoughtful feedback, I support students in actively engaging with content and developing both technical skills and conceptual understanding.

Ultimately, this philosophy emphasizes a balanced integration of structure and freedom, knowledge and intuition, guidance and experimentation. My role is to facilitate this environment, guiding students while allowing their creativity and critical thinking to flourish, creating a learning experience where personal growth and artistic development are nurtured together.
